JAMES B. DEAN

James B. ("Jim") Dean was born in Dodge City, Kansas in 1941 and grew up in Hutchinson, Kansas. He received his J.D. Degree from Harvard University in 1965 having previously graduated from Kansas State University in 1962.

He commenced his law practice in Denver in 1965 with the firm of Tweedy and Mosley where he spent a good deal of his time on mining law and representing a client which developed a leading recreational resort in the Vail, Colorado, area.

In 1971 and 1972, Mr. Dean joined the firm of Kutak Rock Cohen Campbell Garfinkle & Woodward in Omaha, Nebraska, where he spent two years working mostly as an underwriter's counsel in pollution control revenue bond financing. He returned to Denver in 1973 as a partner in Mosley, Wells & Dean where his practice consisted of a general business practice with a developing expertise in agricultural cooperatives.

In 1997, Mr. Dean and another attorney opened an office in Denver for the National firm of Kutak Rock & Huie based in Omaha, Nebraska, where he continued the development of his general business, securities and agricultural practice. In 1981 he founded James B. Dean, P.C.

Mr. Dean has written articles in the insurance, business and agricultural law fields. He has served on an American Bar Association Forum Committee on Agri-Business and Rural Lawyers, was a founding co-editor of The Agricultural Law Journal and has served on the Ethics Advisory Committee of the Colorado Bar Association and Interprofessional Disputes Committee of the Denver Bar Association. He is a member of the American, Colorado, Denver County and Nebraska (inactive) Bar Association.

Mr. Dean is a Special Assistant Attorney General for commodity market orders for the State of Colorado. He was a founding member of the American Agricultural Law Association and has served on its Board of Directors and as its President. In 1989, he was the recipient of its distinguished service award. He is listed in Who's Who of America.

Along with expertise in the laws and practice of other forms of business organizations, Mr. Dean is a recognized expert in the law of cooperative organizations. He represents numerous cooperative organizations. Presently he is Chair of a Committee of the Colorado Bar Association revising Colorado's cooperative statutes and is an associate reporter for the Uniform Cooperative Associations Act drafting project of the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws.
